About Us

Institute Historical Background

St. Joseph's Technical Institute Kisubi is the oldest Technical Institute in Uganda. It was founded in 1911 by the White Missionary Fathers in the buildings of the seminary that had been transferred to Bukalasa.

It began as a Rural Trade School offering practical training in:

  • Blacksmith
  • Tinsmith
  • Carpentry and Joinery
  • Shoemaking
  • Block Laying and Concrete Practice
  • Tailoring and Cutting

The White Fathers trained young men in basic crafts. After three years of training, students were awarded certificates of attendance and deployed across Uganda to help construct churches, schools, hospitals, and other structures.
